Zep Inc. Named Finalist in 2010 MAX Award

Company Received Accolades for Biofilm Drain Purge Marketing Efforts; Product Helps Food Industry Avoid Contamination Problems

ATLANTA (April 8, 2010) – Zep Inc. was honored as a leading Georgia company for its outstanding marketing innovation in the development and launch of Biofilm Drain Purge, a drain maintenance product that helps protect the public from dangerous microbial contamination such as E. coli and Salmonella.  The product was designed with input from food service and food processing customers.

The 18th Annual Marketing Awards for Excellence (MAX Awards) recognized Zep Inc. for proving the “benefit of using the voice of the customer to identify and solve customer problems.”  The MAX Awards are presented by Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business, Department of Marketing and the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

An effective drain maintenance product that can be used for cleaning, Biofilm Drain Purge removes biofilm, a thick slime-like film grown by microorganisms, without the need for manual scrubbing.

“Biofilm Drain Purge is helping food processors deal with the problem of listeria contamination in food processing and preparation-area floor drains,” said Blaine Morton, director of marketing and business development, Food, Zep Inc.  “As part of an effective overall plant sanitation program, Biofilm Drain Purge will help food producers protect their brands and the consuming public by allowing for the production of safe, microbe-free food.”

“Our customers identified a need, and we focused our efforts to develop a solution,” added Jeff Sorensen, Chief Marketing Officer, Zep Inc.  “I am extremely proud of our team for creating a system that will help make our customers’ businesses better.”

In presenting the MAX Awards, Ken Bernhardt, Taylor E. Little Jr. Professor of Marketing and Special Assistant to the Dean of the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University said, “In looking back at the impact of past MAX Award winners, we are confident that this year’s MAX Award Winners and finalists will also redefine their industry, and in some cases, everyday living.”
